Don't bother in Lhasa or elsewhere in Tibet, chances are they won't do it there, or will only give you a very short time. Smaller towns (if they have the proper department) are usually better for extensions - 4-5 days is normal in major cities, but a lot of smaller places (Zhongdian in Yunnan and Leshan in Sichuan, off the top of my head) will do it in a matter of hours.www.travelpod.com/members/mrconfused
