Extending stay on multiple-entry Chinese 'L' visa?

I have a multiple-entry Chinese 'L' visa (Malaysian passport) which allows me to stay up to 30 days per entry, and would like to extend my current stay for another two weeks.

Has anyone done such an extension recently? I will be applying for the extension in either Lhasa or Beijing.

Thanks for any info.

Don't bother in Lhasa or elsewhere in Tibet, chances are they won't do it there, or will only give you a very short time. Smaller towns (if they have the proper department) are usually better for extensions - 4-5 days is normal in major cities, but a lot of smaller places (Zhongdian in Yunnan and Leshan in Sichuan, off the top of my head) will do it in a matter of hours.

Hope that helps

Beijing is fine, because most travellers would need to spend about 5 days there sightseeing anyway. So if you haven't seen the sights there, drop off your passport for the visa extension when you first get there and pick it up just before leaving Beijing.
Cheers!

Where else will you be?

Generally speaking getting an extension adds 30 days to the day from which the extension is issued and usually they won't issue the extension until you have a week or less left on your visa.

Since I have taken the time to answer your question, it would be nice if you took the time to respond as to whether the information was helpful.

Thanks for the help, people.

I am going to be in Lhasa first, then flyng off to Beijing with less than a week left on the visa. Guess I'll try extending in Lhasa first, although it doesn't seem encouraging.

Extending the visa in Beijing with less than a week left on it will be fine.
Cheers!
