Full Mooning

Hey guys and girls,

Im going to be on Ko Pha-Ngan for the Feb 22nd Full moon party. I want to book my accomadation online before i go. Ive been looking at a place called "Silvery Moon Bungalows". They seem pretty standard, but good price and nice surroundings. The only thing is they are located at Ban Tai beach. I know this is only 3.5kms from the full moon beach, but will this matter on the night in terms of transport back? I'm a girl travelling alone and i dont want to be stranded after the party. Are taxis a good option, or are they crazily priced?

I want to go a few kms away from the main party zone and having a nice quiet beach to explore, but the transport thing is really bugging me.

Thanks and cheers,

Lou

Hi Lou,

you will be fine, taxis run pretty much all night and you will be able to get back no problem. there will probably be others from the place you're staying at that will want to go too, so you can share the taxi costs. There are places closer (within walking distance) of the full moon party that are still quiet... look for something along the sunset beach side of Had Rin.

Have fun!

No it won't matter. There are tons of taxis. Ban Tai is especially easy to get to.

If you want to be away from the party but close enough for easy access Ban Tai is exactly that.

Taxis are cheap and easily available just like they are all over SE Asia, that said Im sure they will cost more than usual on the night of the full moon, which is fair enough I think. You will get the odd one who quotes a stupidly high price in which case just move onto the next.

Note that Ban Tai doesnt have the best beaches on KPN, the water is very shallow and at low tide often not high enough to even swim in, however it does have absolutely epic sunsets. Generally the better beaches are further north but then you are getting further and further away from the Full Moon action so you really need to go with what suits your needs, theres not really anywhere that provides the most stunning beaches and is close to the party action. Given swimming and lazing on the beach is more of a daytime activity I prefer to base myself in Ban Tai and then explore the island and its many beautiful beaches during the day by motoped (or you could do so quite cheaply by taxi too). Its much easier to get around during the day than the night and at night most of the action is around the south of the island so this makes more sense for me. Of course keep in mind that when I say Ban Tai doesnt have the best beaches this is going by the ridiculously high Thai islands standards - it can be as just as beautiful place to laze away the days as anywhere else in the world.

If you've got a week or longer you can always stay around Ban Tai when its party time and head north after that for some downtime on a more stunning beach.

Thankyou tuna, losing touch and angel.

The advice was v much appriciated, and my mind is much more at ease. I was thinking along the same lines as you Tuna, in terms of basing myself in Ban Tai and exploring the island over my week or so stay. Can't wait!

Cheers guys,

Lou
