Shanghai Airport...which one?

I will be flying from Shanghai to Beijing. Can anyone tell me which Shanghai airport is the most convienient to fly out of, easiest to get to, etc?

I'm also looking for suggestions on airlines or where to book tickets, it would need to be in english.

Thanks!

most likely Hongqiao - unless for some god-forsaken reason you're staying in pudong.

elong.com, ctrip.com, tickets.9588.com are 3 of the many many online chinese websites to buy tickets. I don't find much difference between them - only that 9588 is easier to book international trips and elong's operators always call me in english.

Actually, I would rather prefer the overnight sleeper trains. Is there any particular reason why you need to fly?
Cheers!

Depends where you're staying, Pudong or Puxi. Hongqiao (Shanghai) airport for Puxi or Pudong airport if you're stying there. Check out www.elong.net (not com).

Even if you are staying in Pudong, it is quicker and cheaper to get to Hongqiao. Pudong is very large, though, so I am talking about the section on the east bank of the Huangpu River, including about 80-90% of all Pudong hotels. Taxi drivers from Pudong will avoid downtown Shanghai and take you on the Nanpu Bridge (the corkscrew bridge) and on expressways to the close-in Hongqiao Airport.

As for arrivals, they both have their inconveniences. At Hongqiao, the taxi queue can be over 30 minutes easily, so you stand and wait. At Pudong you are way out of town, so taking the Maglev and then transfering to taxi or subway is usually faster, but it involves the transfer and with luggage it is inconvenient too.

Always looking for new adventures, new cultures, interesting geography.

Unless you bypass the line. Then it's only about a 3 minute walk.
