Hong Kong to Guangzhou/Sanshui with Bicycle

Hi!

Arriving in Hong Kong in November with my bicycle. What is the best way to travel into Guangzhou? Will the trains from HK take bicycles? Also, the KCR train time table appears to have them travelling as far as the East Station- not the Main Train Station.

After stopping in Guangzhou I then want to go to west to Sanshui and start my cycletour to Guilin. Again should I use the train?

Many thanks in advance!!!

Yes that's right, the trains from Hong Kong go to Guangzhou East train station, not Guangzhou main train station.
There're trains for Guangzhou -- Sanshui, but they might not be at convenient times for you. Also, they depart from Guangzhou main train station, not Guangzhou East train station.

N637/N640 (0528--0637) 1h09min
N595/N598 (1052--1150) 0h58min
1319/1322 (1828--1936) 1h08min
1291/1294 (2028--2138) 1h10min

Hope this helps.
Cheers!

Direct through trains from Hong kong to Guangzhou will take your bicycle. With the commuter trains to Lo Wu you might have a problem taking it.

How long are you planning to spend in Guangzhou? Might be wiser to catch the train from Shenzhen direct to Guilin, or catch a sleeper bus from Shenzhen to Yangshuo / Guilin? Depends whether you want to cycle to Guilin / Yangshuo , or around Yangshuo / Guilin.

Thanks Guys! Yes I intend to cycle Sanshui to Guilin (although I know little of the road conditions/accommadation). But first I will want to stop in Guangzhou. If I go by bus-which one? There appears to be quite a few bus companies. Is there a boat/ferry option to Guangzhou?
Kind Regards

Thanks drumbrake!- some good links there. Have you cycled in the area? And if you did- which route did you take & what was it like? Cheers

I've just cycled in the Yangshuo / Guilin area - not to Guilin.

There are people who have done it - post a question on On Your Bike and you should get some replies.
