Thailand - where do I go if....

I'm new here (TTF) and I desperately need a holiday.
I'm from Canberra and wanting to escape the shitty frosty winter for a month next year (June-August).

I will probably be going on my own (solo female) and am wanting to spend a week to 10 days just relaxing on a beach - I'm not a heavy drinker or party person. I don't want to be stuck in a resort with a billion couples travelling on their honeymoons either. I also don't want to be the only westerner wherever I end up though.

Can anyone recommend anywhere the weather will be nice and that they think would be my cup of tea ?

Are there any other girls out there who have done something similar?

The weather is likely to be better on the Gulf Coast side of Thailand, rather than the Andaman side, at that time.

In that area, Ko Tao has a nice laid-back vibe, with a decent mix of good bars and places to socialise (but not really a mad party scene), plus beaches to chill out on.

Or Ko Pha Ngan (away from partytown Hat Rin), has some very good beaches (eg. Thong Nai Pan).

I'm not a girl but I can say for sure that I have met a fair number of solo western females at these places ;-)

Hey there... I've been to Thailand a few times as my mum live in Bangkok... I'd suggest you'd check out Krabi and Ao Nang beach... Ko Tao is a bit more laid back... if you do venture to Ko Samui steer clear of Caweng beach if you want to avoid the crowds but I stayed at a nice little resort on Bophut beach which would probably be right down your alley...

Happy travels!

Up the gulf....Samet or Ko Chang you can also find seclusion (or not).

You hurt my feelings...both of 'em!

The southern Gulf (Samui, Phangan, Tao) is usually drier that time of year. Jimbo's Samet has to run it close.
I reckon you would really like beaches like Thong Nai Pan and Mae Hat on Phangan - I have a fair bit of info on these. You might also check my Tao stuff for any place which appeals - a month gives you plenty of time to hop on a ferry and go spend some time there.

you're right, tezza. The June-Aug. timeframe is iffy up the gulf; OP'd have to check weather up here before arriving.

You hurt my feelings...both of 'em!
