Anyone on Khao San?

Hey,

I arrived on Khao san yesterday and am just trying to find my feet. I'll probably stay here another couple of days just to take it in and see how it goes before heading North.

I'd like to relax and have a beer or two round here but I'm not quite up for hitting the bars by myself just yet, and so if anyone's on Khao san road and would be up for meeting up for a beer tonight or tomorrow to take the sting out of it- maybe to reel off a few tales and some advice if you're an old hand at this (or not), I'd appreciate it!

Or - any suggestions as to guesthouse/bar where its really easy to get chatting with other travellers, that would be cool to. I havn't seen one with a "common area" and I dont fancy walking up to a random table (Is it me or are all the tourists here couples!?)

Cheers!

Marky P, if you haven't already found some people to hangout with i suggest checking out some of the little cocktail carts on KSR, if they are still there. they usually come out at about 6 or 7 in the evening. People will usually be more than willing to chat and drink with you. DOn't be nervous about talking to randoms - if they are worth talking to then they'll give you the time to chat. I always think that a part of travel is to meet others, hopefully people that you approach will think this way.
Alternatively, is the VW camper van cocktail bar still parked on the petrol station forecourt, just down from the police station? If i remember correctly it was always quite lively and patronised by backpacker types.

Have a good time.

G to the Gekko bar on Soi Rambuttri ... It is on the back side of the wat. If is good for people watching and chatting with folks. I have met quite a few people there. The VW van mentioned is a good idea too.

Dutch courage makes everyone friendlier. Go to 7-11 and get a large bottle of Chang/Leo/Singha and take it back to your room and chug it down, one of the energy drinks too. Then follow above advice.
