Andaman Advice

Am hoping to spend 1 - 2 weeks on the andaman coast in Jan. I understand that Phuket is the centre of all that is loud, but just after any advice or ideas as to what to expect from Lanta, Phi Phi, Railay etc.

Thanks

Lanta's great if you're into the funky, laid-back, sit-in-a-hammock-all-day experience. Definitely a world away from the brashness of Phuket. It seemed to me that it gets funkier and more secluded the further south you go, away from the town. I stayed at Klong Jark for a week and had a fantastic time.

Thanks billp.
Just to flesh things out:
Phuket - commercial, party zone, crowded - but some real nice places off the beaten track
Railay/Phi Phi - visually spectacular, crowded, Phi Phi getting real expensive.
Lanta/Lipe/Muk/Bulon Lae/Khao Lak - good compromise islands with some laid back areas (Lak is not an island)
Kradan/Ngai/Jum - laid back
Libong/Sukorn/Yao Noi/Phayam/little Ko Chang - more laid back
Lots more info in that link billp gave.

Thanks Tezzza.

Patong on Phuket is the centre of all that is loud, but has much more to offer, and some very nice and relaxed beaches as well.
