Can't withdraw money at ATMs

am stuck in Thailand with almost no money thanks to Bank of Scotland preventing me take out my money. They have no email address to contact on their website to be contacted.

Both of my BoS cards (VISA and Mastercard) don't work and now I am stuck here almost penniless and a ruined hoilday with only £100 to last me 3 weeks! Despite having over £3000 in my BoS account!

Bank of Scotland appears to have no means of being contacted!

Any suggestions?

this is my nightmare waiting to happen. Until now, relying on TC's and cash I've never had the slightest problem exchanging money all over South East Asia in five years. Not a single bad experience in changing the equivalent of around fifty thousand dollars.

now I have an ATM card, that may change.

You'll get charged a lot since it's treated as a loan, but try to get a cash advance on your cards.

Of course you can also use your credit cards at some restaurants, supermarkets and hotels.

Tried phoning them? This: 08457 21 31 41 is the number listed here

I never ever had a problem with ATM on other trips and countries!

now I been here in Thailand 1 week and still been unable to withdraw any further money than what i came in with (£100)

What makes me angry is that Bank of Scotland appears to have no means of being contactable!

And as has been said many times here, it really is best to inform your bank/credit card company of the Country's that you intend on travelling in, it sounds like your cards have been locked due to spending and withdrawal trends that are not your norm, i.e cash withdrawals/ credit card usage in Asia, and not in the UK..

Let us know how you get on, worse case you can all ways get someone to do a money transfer via Western Union , expensive granted but it will tide you over till you get your cards sorted out, but as your here for three weeks you could be back home by the time that happens....

there are some helplines which you can call via skype: 08457 21 31 41 or 08457 20 30 99 and ask for assistance.

right, BoS does not have any email... what a strange bank :-)

try to make a deal with other travellers, paying them accomodation by credit card, so they can give you the amount in cash.

I don't mean to be mean, but surely the BoS can be contacted.

Ribblerat has it right. You gotta tell the folks down at corporate that you're traveling ouside the country or some of them shut down your accounts.

Try an ATM that belongs to a different bank. I found that sometimes one bank can have communication problems or limits imposed when another does not.

You could also try to get a Visa/MC cash advance from a local bank branch. I believe some of them do that.

Bank of Scotland must have a number ,or google it .They should be unable to unlock you card .Another thing that can happen is that your card can get magnetized ,and loose its data .Also you can bring your credit card in to a bank to get a cash advance .

A cash advance is not going to work if the cards have been locked, and that sounds like what may have happened..

OP did you inform your bank and your credit card Company of the Country's that you intended to travel in ?

If not then this could be the cause of your problem.....

call your bank to unlock it..
check different atms..

and you can also set up a thai bank account and wire the funds to your account. I usually do this for the favorable exchange, free atm usage in thailand, and for budgeting myself properly, since the atm machine only report figure in Baht.
