Best island for a week to get settled???

Hi All -

My girlfriend and I will be arriving in Thailand Nov 18th for a 2 month trip in SEA. We are just coming off some serious workload at home, and will want to just chill out and relax on a beach for a week before venturing off to other islands in the south, and then eventually making our way to northern thailand. In all, we have 2 months to play, and plan to do most if it without a plan - but need to rest up first. Which island do you suggest is the best one for:

White sand beaches
Relaxing - not too stressful
Good food and dining, but not looking for a 'party scene' per-sey
Beach activities - snorkle, day trips, kayak, walk or hike
A good place to get over jetlag from an 18 hour flight and crazy workload back at home?

Also, if you have a good recommendation for accomodation that would be appreciated too! We are on somewhat of a budget but are looking in the $80-$100US price range for the first week of the trip.

Thanks,

Blasky

Ko Ngai has all your requirements - Thapwarin and its neighbour Coco Huts are very nice and should be within your budget, as should all the other places except Chateau Hill Resort. I have a fair bit of info here.
I'd also suggest one of the more laid back beaches in southern Lanta like Kantiang Bay, except snorkelling off the beach aint great on Lanta. Marine Park View is one of several nice midrangers on Kantiang.
And Long Beach on spectacular Phi Phi probably won't be booked out that early in November. Try The Beach Resort, Paradise Resort, Paradise Pearl and Phi Phi Hill.
