Chiang Mai to Kunming

Does anyone know if its possible to do the boat trip at this time of year? I heard it might not be possible due to it being right at the end of the rainy season.

How much does it cost? And how long does it take?

Also, which airline is it that does direct flights Chiang Mai to Kunming?

Perhaps you mean Chiang Saen to Jinghong. This boat trip is currently going for 4000 baht and takes one long day. It leaves Chiang Saen at ~5am and gets into Jinghong around 8PM. I have more info at the bottom of this page

You can do it cheaper on a cargo vessel, I have not done it myself, but I read it is 2,000 Baht. Just talk to a captain of a ship and negotiate the price.

I read on a previous post, which I now cannot find, that the Chinese stopped passengers from using cargo boats. I agree it would be a lot cheaper than the other option, although the facilities might be inferior.

That's when the water is at its highest level. Why should it be "not possible"?

Flights; THAI air, of course, who else/ NOT daily, check their webiste or amadeus.com. OR Bangkokair.com BKk(may stop in Sukhothai)-JingHong, reputedly some webspecials for 2500 THB (prob without taxes-> any way will come to around 4000
