I'll wave at you as I pass by. I am taking the Moscow to Beijing train on the 20th of November. I am stopping in Ulan Bator for a few days and the hostel informed me that the weather would be -20C during the day. (-30C) at night. The train is heated and apparently this is the best time of year to pass through Russia - as you see Siberia for how it should be seen - under snow. I can't wait!

you won't save money but it is an interesting trip. Were you planning to travel straight through? If so, you will need to contact an agency and be prepared for the cost of the tickets plus the visas plus the time and the food.

Train is warm, some would say overheated. Traveling companions will be varied. There are tourists on this route all year long.

Why do you think that it would be a waste of time?

I can't guarantee being buried in snow in Siberia in November but it will be cold. Temps along the TransMong route

Since I have taken the time to answer your question, it would be nice if you took the time to respond as to whether the information was helpful.

The views will be AWESOM. There's loads of cool things to do around lake Baikal in winter including rock climbing up frozen waterfalls. The trains (in summer at least) are well run so you should be well looked after. At this time of year it will be possible to find seats on trains without too much advance warning, i think you can save a lot of money this way, look into it! I think the only train that's hard to come by is the one from Beijing to Ulan Bataar (and possibly the one from UB into Russia), again, look into it, I'm not 100%. I don't recommmend doning it all in one go, for me that's sitting on a train for the sake of it, three or four nights max in one stretch i say.
