DC-BKK, just do it?

I've been prowling around travel comparison sites for the past 2 months and r/t tickets from Washington, DC - BKK (one stop each way) are holding steady at $1360 inc all taxes. I plan to travel next June-July...is this a decent price/should I just bite the bullet and purchase?

Thanks in advance!

Yes that's a good price. Korean Air has many flights at this level (I prefer Asian-based carriers myself). June is a ways off so you could probably wait a few more months and still be fine. Or just book it now if you're sure of your plans. I doubt you'll find a lower price by waiting. June/July is medium season in Thailand, but of course high season from a US perspective. Up to you.

I live in DC. I look for flights all time. In fact, I am writing this at the American University library! That is a pretty good fare for DC, but sometimes it is cheaper than that. I usually get a much better deal out of JFK. I got on Thai Airways nonstop flight last time I went for $1200. I just jump on the chinatown bus and ride the subway out to JFK. This is exactly what I will be doing in December. It is kind of a pain in the ass when you come back though. You might try Thai Fly. You can email them, chat with them, or check for yourself. They often beat what I am able to find on my own.

That being said, you will save yourself a lot of time checking. I always check everyday on multiple sites. It is time consuming. If you book it, you can just forget about it!

The price of a barrel of crude just crossed 90$ a barrel!
Combined with the value of a greenback these days - methinks you got a bargain!

Personally I prefer Asian or Middle East carriers to US-based ones!
Sorry I lie - Bangladesh Biman is a strong competition for US-carriers!

what airlines are you looking at? what websites are you searching? I think it's pretty high for that period and this far in advance.

No #6 I think the prices will only get higher given the current pricing situation and rising fuel costs. Book now if you're confident of your travel plans.

I bought a ticket in August for high season travel of Nov-Dev starting the week of Thanksgiving from LAX for only $890. Even if bought a separate connecting flight to DC, it would still have been cheaper than $1360. Maybe OP is not looking on comparison sites like mobissimo.com and kayak.com to get a full range of fares. This far ahead, the prices should be cheaper, especially for lower season travel to SE Asia of June/July.

I just found $1317 IAD - BKK May 29-Aug 1 with Korean Air. Surprisingly, NYC is the same price with the same airline!

If it matters, I was following prices for a while before I bought, and the cheapest are usually 5-6 months out. The cheapest fare I saw for my flight was $820. They started going up around beginning of August for mid-November departure date.

the prices are always lower for West Coast cities than East, for obvious reasons... if you can find a cheap NYC based flight, don't forget the AMtrak that goes from DC to NYC... i am sure you can figure it out at Amtrak's website. It is possibly the only fast train in the United States, and i think i paid 30 bucks for it, but this was 2 years ago...

fuel prices have gone up so much... my first flight from Richmond VA to BKK, 4 years ago, was about 800 round trip. From a small airport at that..
