VISA EXTENSION- Questions

I would like to get an extension to my 30-day visa. What is the name of the office in China that I should visit to request the extension, and what is involved? What do I need? Just my passport? How long does it take and how much does it cost? Thanks for your help

You want the Exit-Entry Administration of the Public Security Bureau. This is usually located in an office separate from the main PSB office, though sometimes it adjoins the PSB office. Your hotel should know where it's located.

Usually you need a copy of the registration form from your hotel. This means you should stay in a hotel that will properly register you with the PSB when you plan to renew your visa.

The time for processing an extension varies, and can be several days in large cities. Procedures are usually quicker and less bureaucratic in small cities. Beijing, Shanghai and such are not good places to renew a visa if you need a quick turn-around.

Cost varies by nationality.

You should apply for the extension about 5 days before the end of your 30 day visa since in most places the extension adds days from the time it is issued not from the end of your visa. One extension for 30 days is generally granted easily. A second 30 day extension is less likely.

Do not apply for the extension in Tibet. They are never granted for more than few days to enable you to leave the country.

Consistent reports suggest that one of the best places to get an extension is Leshan, about 2 hours from Chengdu by bus. Extensions are granted same day and usually for 30 days from the end of your visa.

Since I have taken the time to answer your question, it would be nice if you took the time to respond as to whether the information was helpful.

Does anyone know how easy it is to extend the visa in Kunming or Gullin areas? Cheers!
