Kunming-Lijiang/Dali/Shangri-la

Our train arrives in Kunming around 11.30 am. What are our options for heading to Dali or Lijiang the same day? Sounds like the bus is the better option to Dali but not sure how long it takes. How frequent are the buses to/from Shangri-la from Lijiang and Kunming and how long does it take. Also, the hike to Tiger Leaping Gorge. Is the 2 day hike enough or are you missing out if you don't go for longer.

You can get the bus to Dali from Kunming bus station.I normally try and take the smaller bus ( around 16 seater ) as it generally takes circa 5 hours, being around 45 minutes quicker than the c.45 seater bus that also stops more often.Agents will tell you its 4 hours or so,its not true.
The buses run at least hourly and you will have no problem at that time of day to travel.
Cannot help re travel to Shangri La,sorry.
I would say 2 days is enough for TLG providing you get the first/early bus from Lijiang. Suggest you search "Tiger Leaping Gorge" on this branch.
Good luck

2 days for Tiger Leaping Gorge should be fine if you're hiking one-way and taking a bus the other.
Cheers!

Kunming bus station with Dali buses is a few steps from the train station, so no problem. You can find more info on my webpage: meczko.blog.onet.pl
