Beaches near Bangkok

Hi everybody,

We are looking for nice and calm beaches not too far from Bgk to end our trip after 3 weeks in Lao.
We're looking for peaceful places where we could dive, rest and eat good fishes! For those who know, something like Palolem (Goa) in India...
What could you recommand? Ko Chang, Ko Samet, take the plane to...?

Thanks in advance!

The only decent diving among your choices are the islands south of Ko Chang. Pattaya offers some dive spots, but are fairly boring. Ko Samet has some excellent white sand (my pick). I was on the beach at Palolem in 2001 and loved it - perhaps messed up by now but I hope otherwise.

Samet and Chang are not that far from Bangkok. You can leave Bangkok in the morning and be swinging in your hammock watching the sunset the same day while your fish are being grilled.
