busses to Kanchanaburi

Does anyone know how frequent busses go to Kanchanaburi and how long the trip takes from Bangkok?
If anyone one has a link to any websites with train or busses travelling around Thailand?
Thanks!

kanachanaburi info.com is an excellent site in both English and German, including bus and train timetables. It's a shame some of Thailand's other towns and cities don't have sites as good as this.

If I remember this correctly - from the Southern Bus terminal (Sai Tai Mai ?) frequent departures - no need for special timing. I think the cab from KSR was 60 Baht or so, also city buses available. Took 2 hrs, frequent stops along the way.

There are different classes of buses but they all take about 2 hours. Cost is about 70-100 baht depending upon the class.

For train travel in Thailand, start by looking at the Man in Seat 61 website.

There is a train to Kanchanaburi and I recommend you do it for the experience. Cost is about 100 baht. It takes about 3 hours. Be sure to get there early or you will ride on the floor or stand the entire trip. It is hot, hard seats but interesting view of the countryside and people.

Since I have taken the time to answer your question, it would be nice if you took the time to respond as to whether the information was helpful.

Today we travelled by bus from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi and it was a little challenging sussing it all out so thought I'd share it with you all. Buses leave from the Southern bus terminal (brand new and massive with food court, clothes shops, etc.) every 15 minutes. To get to the bus station is a little bit of a pain though because it is out of town. We caught the BTS (skytrain) to Victory Monument station. Take the exit that leads you along a walkway towards Victory Monument (a monument in the middle of a large roundabout), I think it is exit four. When you are facing Victory monument and the walkway splits left and right, take the walkway left down to an area where you will see there are lots of buses. Bus number 515 will take you to the Southern bus terminal, it takes about 20-30 minutes, although I think the buses there are quite frequent. On getting to the Southern terminal, go upstairs to the first floor where you will find many ticket counters. Counter 79-80 sells tickets for a first class bus to Kanchanaburi, costing 106 Baht each. The journey took us 2 hours 15 minutes.
