Is it safe?

I'm a female 24 y/o, it will be my first time to travel alone. I'm planning to backpack around Thailand, and its neighboring countries like Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. Is it safe for woman to go to these places alone ? If I will be travelling in a shoestring, is 1000 USD enough? Honestly I don't have any idea about the costs. How much time will I'll be needing to see all of these places?

Thanks a lot,

How long do you have to travel? You're talking about 4 countries, which will require 3-4 months if you want to do them by land, thouroughly. even if you do it really cheap, budget at least $20 per day. also depends on when you're going. some Thai islands can be expensive during high season. this also assumes that you will be taking buses everywhere, not flights.

Start by reading Travelfish.org suggested itinerary. That should give you a good handle on what and how to do this.

And yes, it is safe. There are tons of travelers doing this route. Stay at hostels and guesthouses and you will meet people.

Find out the costs by going over past posts and reviewing the FAQs at the top of the page.$1000 would be fine for me for a month in Thailand,or perhaps 45 days in Vietnam,I usually stay in GHs that are in the $10 range ,and spend the rest on food, booze and transportation very few soveniers. You can stay in dorms for less but I found my self catching something in that communal bedroom 1 person has a cough and everyone else gets it.I have found some places that you could get by very cheaply $10 a day or so (food and lodging no booze)but I usually only stay a few days at any location so my costs go up.You should not be so cheap that it's a hardship after all your on vacation for some fun right?

Yep, 1000usd is only 33,800 baht. You're good for one month TOTAL; perhaps a bit longer if you take cheap transport and don't drink too much alcohol.

You hurt my feelings...both of 'em!

Money might be an issue. Mind you, while travelling you might end up spending less than you budgeted for, for various reasons.

Vietnam is cheap just like Thailand. Transport might cost you though and accommadation - well that can go either way. Generally it's cheap but depends on what you are looking for.

It's always good to take extra with for that just in case scenario...-;)

One love...:D

Well here i am, what were your other 2 wishes?

The current exchange rate between Thai Baht and US dollar is not very good. You may need to spare more budget. In considering of travelling 4 countries, I definitely believe that you need more budget. In addition, you need to know your health as well as timing that you have. Can you eat food on the sidestreet to make sure that it is on par with your budget. You can squeez anything but you should make sure that it is your fun trip. cheers!
