Day trip to Tongli

Is just one day sufficent to see Tongli? I am travelling from Shanghai and wondering if it is a good idea just to take a day trip there? How long is the train from Shanghai - Tongli?

One day is sufficient, it's not very large. I went there from Suzhou, very close. Worthwhile IMHO.

One day is enough. You can go there by bus or taxi.

Enjoy!

will be good if you just join a day trip tour there. saves you all the hassle and actually hear the interesting histories.

Personally I would prefer to stay overnight. 2 travellers and I stayed overnight recently and it was a really good experience... plus we unexpectedly ran into Chiefie and his wife at the same place, 1 day after I met them during the Shanghai TT dinner! :)
Also note that there're now direct buses running between Shanghai Hongqiao and Pudong airports, and Tongli. There's also a bus departure from Hutai Lu long-distance bus station (near Shanghai main train station) to Tongli IIRC.
Cheers!
