last minute national week trip

Ok, so my question is if I am traveling with a Chinese person is it possible to find a cheap cheap hotel some place in Qingdao and Dalian next week, the holiday week. I realize we are cutting it close, being spontaneous. Obviously everything is going to be booked but does anyone have any suggestions? and I am not really looking for a dorm either. AM I just totally out of luck here?

How cheap is your "cheap cheap"? I hope you like squalid conditions if you're going for dirt-cheap.
Cheers!

In Qingdao immediately next door to Kaiyue IYH, there's a pleasant/quaint hotel that is used for overflow accommodation.
I don't have the contact details (except via IYH staff), but it's at the top of the stairs.

The rooms are spacious (oppulent according to my hostel friends) and security is pretty good.
Prices are comparable to hostels, and I had an a/c and open fireplace.
The family owners don't speak English, but can enjoy a beer with you.

: )

Yeah, I've certainly done squalid before, I really have no problem with it, just need a place to stay. And, yeah, Chris that is exactly what I was looking for. I will try to go there, thanks for the help.

If you look like a foreigner (as in, not Asian), you might find it hard to get cheap hotels in Dalian. I've had friends and also heard of instances where they refuse to service foreigners at anything less than 3 star-hotels.
