Hong Kong Train Agents

I am planning on a trip to Hong Kong in 2008(April/May) to basically see if I can buy train tickets to take a train to Shanghai, stop for a few days, then train to Beijing,do the same, then get on the Trans Mongolian train with two or three stops in Russia. I hope to reach Helsinki before getting a ferry to Stockholm.
I have heard of Monkey, but I want to travel independently with my adult daughter and pre book the stops. I am fairly flexible with my time and hope that there is an agency in Hong Kong where I can do this. The web sites are too vague for me.
I lived in Hong Kong for 4 years in the early 1970s and want to see what changes have taken place there.(Many, many I believe). Also I cannot believe that Chungking Mansions is still standing !That was my first home in HK !
I also want to catch up with some friends who I have lost contact with, but believe still live there.

Lonely Planet should have a Hong Kong specific branch as it has so much to explore and see that it really is almost another China!
How can this be done ?

There is a direct train from Hong Kong to Shanghai - you can buy tickets directly from the KCRC.

I think you can buy the other tickets in Hong Kong through CTS, but you will be paying big commissions. See here. Probably better to get tickets in Shangahi and then Beijing.

Chungking is still standing - and hpefully will be for another 30 years. I much prefer it to the new towering building behind it.

I'll offer to help you out with the Shanghai -- Beijing train tickets if you want. I'm studying here and regularly help friends/classmates/travellers out with train tickets.
Cheers!

It should be easy in China to get train tickets for what you want, but I used Monkey Business last year for the train from BEI to HELSINKI and they were great. I know I could have done it by myself, and perhaps have saved some money, but it was worth it for me as in Russia the paperwork has to be perfect and they are so tight-assed about everything, in comparison to China ( believe it or not). It takes 10 hours to cross the border into Russia for no good reason except they take the train apart.
Anyway, for what it's worth I would drop[ into monkey busness office in Red Hotel in Beijing to check it out. Also a good hotel, with walking distance of Sanlutan
