15FYI: There is a thread at Ayahuasa forums with several people reporting abuse by Scott Petersen at Refugio Altiplano:
The internet should be a free space for people to post what they've experienced at Refuigio - both positive and negative.

17Ron Wheelock is a pretty good and well respected shaman. Loads of documentaries on him and he certainly helped me out with some pretty deep healing. His place; El Purguero, is located at 23km on the Iquitos - Nauta road, so easy to get to but still in the jungle and its a beautiful location.
He is a gringo, but has been working with ayahuasca since 1996. He also works with the plant dietas and trained with some of the greats. He speaks both spanish and english fluently and is the currandero and shaman for his village.
Check out his website: www.elpurguero.com
also there are some great forums on www.ayahuasca.com
I wouldn't worry too much about being a 'single woman' in the amazon, yes there are bad stories of things happening, but the simple thing is to go with your gut instincts and also recommendations. If you meet several people who seem really lovely, spiritual and open people who all recommend a certain shaman, then I would say that shaman is probably alright.
