shipping costs

Anyone any idea how much it costs to ship stuff to the UK from LOS? And where you would go to do it?
I just tried a shop that advertised "postal" services, but they want 6000B for 20 Kilos, and that's the max package.
The wife's got too much stuff for the planeand I don't want to junk it all, if there's another way.

I am not sure in unaccompanied baggage covers this. There are shipping agents dotted about Bangkok and Chatuchak market has shipping agents.
No idea if 6000 baht is expensive but 20 kilos is quite a lot.

International parcel post costs 4275 baht for 20 kg surface mail. Best thing is to go to the main post office on Charoen Krung Road near the Oriental Hotel. They even have a cheap parcel wrapping service there. There've been some reports of items going missing from the Banglamphu post office. There's also a post office on Sukhumvit near the Landmark Hotel, and another right beside Thonglor BTS station, near the corner of Sukhumvit soi 36. Here are some other postl rates. Surface post is cheap but it takes a long time.

Shipping household goods is ridiculously expensive.
Here's a list of options.

You should find out from you airline how much checking another bag is.

I flew from Bangkok, on China Airlines, and took an extra 30 kg bag for $100 US back to San Diego CA.

A deal as far as I'm concerned . . . Check it out . . .!!!

Good luck . .!!

Of the gladdest moments in human life, methinks, is the departure upon a distant journey into unknown lands. Shaking off with one mighty effort the fetters of Habit, the leaden weight of Routine, the cloak of many Cares and the slavery of Home, one feels once more happy. The blood flows with the fast circulation of childhood... A journey, in fact, appeals to Imagination, to Memory, to Hope, -the three sister graces of our moral being.

I have used the Post Office on Sukhumvit many times to send parcels to the UK and Australia, always without a problem. The packing service is cheap and good. Sea mail to Aus takes about six to seven weeks, not sure about the UK as I have only air mailed stuff to there, and it takes only seven days or so.

Thanks 4 replies.
I have checked Thai Airways website, but it gives no clue as to excess bag charges, just maximum sizes/weight

Excess baggage usually runs between $100~$150 US.
You'll have to call Thai for their charge.

The package must also conform to the checked baggage size and weight limits.
Exceeding the size limits usually means paying double.
Exceeding the weight typically means double, if they accept it at all.

It's interesting that the shop's 'postal services' limit corresponds to the maximum package size that you can send from the Post Office.

So save yourself money and get yourself over to the nearest Post Office.

Everything I sent from Banglamphu arrived safely. In some cases, items sent by ship arrived only a few days later than airmail.
