Khao San equivalent in Beijing

Not that Bangkok's Khao San road is any great place, but it is convenient and cheaper than other touristy in Bangkok areas, so I want to know where the Khao San of Beijing is located and what it is called. In other words, where is the backpacker ghetto in Beijing, or at least where's the strip where you're bound to see foreigners, with a lot of cheaper hotels and hostels near, internet cafes, restaurants with international food, small travel agencies, etc. Is there such a place? Or is it all high rises and huge expensive hotels? Thanks.

I have only been to Beijing twice but I have never seen and can't recall any mention of a KSR equivalent in Beijing.

Since I have taken the time to answer your question, it would be nice if you took the time to respond as to whether the information was helpful.

I've lived in Beijing for years, and there is no Khao San Road here, or anyplace that has all the elements you mention rolled into one. The hostels for backpackers tend to be scattered about in one or two central districts within Beijing, but are not "clumped" together where any large ghetto of support facilities could develop around. You can find all the elements you mention and get your needs satisfied in Beijing, but it's not going to be dished out to you as effortlessly as Khao San Rd.
