From SHEKOU PORT to SHENZHEN downtown - how to ?

I am planning to take the ferrry from Macau to Shenzhen and learned that I willl arrive at Shekou. How far is that place from Shenzhen downtown area ?
and what kind of transport is available there ? Taxi only ? and how much will that cost me ? on my map, it looks as if its quite some distance to downtown area....
I stilll dont know where exactly I will stay, so it would be okay to find any inexpensive transport to downtown and then hail down a cab for a short ride to my accomodation....

It is quite some distance from Shekou to central Shenzhen, but cheap public transport's available. Note that most Shenzhen buses are exact fare, so make sure you've got some RMB coins.

I have a rather big travel-bag (no backpack), weighing around 17-18 Kg, so I am not sure if they will let me board a regular commuter-bus (and not sure if that would be much fun anyway).... maybe I should skip the ferry and take a long-distance-bus from Macau to Shenzhen.... hmmmmm

Depends what you mean by 'downtown', but the K113 and K204 will both take you to Luo Hu. It takes up to an hour, and costs about 8RMB. (You don't need to have the exact fare, because like most Shenzhen buses they have conductresses).

There's frequent bus service from Zhuhai, just north of Macau, to Luohu. A bit slower than the ferry, perhaps, but cheaper as well.

If you are going to the area of the Venetian Hotel (near by the Windows of the World park) it will run you about RMB60-RMB70 with a taxi. So it all depends how you want to spend your money and what time a night you come to the ferry port....

The last ferry from Macau to Shekou gets in at 21:45, and there are plenty of buses at that time.

Window of the World is about 20km from central Shenzhen.
