Malarone is not available in India. The only place it is available (by prescription) is in Singapore and the cost is pretty much the same as all the other places it is available.

Generic ciprofalxin should be readily and inexpensively available, but do buy from a reliable pharmacy.

You can buy doxycycline, mefloquine, quinine, proguanil and chloroquin otc in india, very cheaply. This should cover you for any malarial scinarios that might crop up.

However, the malaria in India is often resistent to chloroquin. While pharmacists in the UK still recommend the proguanil and chloroquin combination, the US cdc does not recommend the combination anywhere there has been documented chloroquin resistance. The cdc lists your effective anti-malarial options in malarial areas of India as being doxy, larium (mefloquine) and malarone.

I think chloroquine plus either proguanil or maloprim is still reasonable effective in india.... however, doxy or mefloquine would be certain.

Although still used in some parts of Southern Africa, maloprim is no longer recommended for most areas as resistance is widespread. It is also of limited availability.

UK experts still recommend chloroquine plus proguanil for areas other than Assam. I have heard reports that proguanil is not available in India.

Yes, you can easily get Cipro in India. Don't know the price - but it wasn't expensive when I got it.
My advice is to wait and see if you get sick enough to need it. If you do, it'll be easy to find (from a doctor or hospital).
