Trans-Mongolian Train tickets from Beijing

HI there

im training it to Moscow from Beijing, and wondered what the cheapest way to buy my ticket is?? I've heard the cheapest way isnt the easiest.... i.e walking up to the ticket office and asking for one. Im not to keen on going thru an agency cos it'll cost way more im sure.
If i make friends with someone who speaks the language, could they buy it for me at locals cost?? Or is there even a locals cost?

help please......

To Beijing Internation hotel,in the lobby they sell the tickets, but i can't remember whether they charge the extra service fee. They need the passport,so maybe your friend can't help you unless they have your passport

No pains,No gains

I am pretty sure that the location in the Beijing International hotel lobby is a CITS office.

As far as I know foreigners can NOT buy the ticket at the train station.

As noted to buy the ticket, you need to present your passport. To board the train, you also need to present your passport.

Were you planning to go straight through or to make stops? In China, you can only buy the ticket to your first stop.

I suggest reading the links in my signature line.
