Shanghai Bejing train tickets at station

Has anyone bought tickets for the train in China at the last minute? We want to take the train from Shanghai to Beijing straight from our flight, but we'll only have a few hours to get the tickets before the train leaves. Anyone??

Hard sleeper - forget it.

There's a chance to get soft sleeper on the Z train since it's quite expensive (RMB500). However, it's hit and miss. My friend went last thursday morning and could not get one for that evening. Plane ticlets seem to be quite pricey now, which doesn't help.

Let me know if you want me to get the tickets for you beforehand. I really doubt you'll be able to get any sleeper tickets on the day of departure. What time is your flight arriving?
