Transportation options

Does anyone know what (direct) transportation options exist between Chiang Mai and Kanchanaburi? How about Kanchanaburi to Surat Thani / Koh Samui area? I am trying to figure out whether it will be necessary to go back to Bangkok between these destinations. Thanks!

Probably not unless you're with a package tour. Chiang Mai has an amazing selection of bus routes, so you might be able to bus it from there to Kanch.

You'd probably need a bus from Kan to the southern bus terminal in Bkk to get down south. Trains, of course, will go to and out of Bkk.

You hurt my feelings...both of 'em!

Thailand has good transport systems, most are westerner friendly to. they have VIP busses, basically a decked out double decker bus. i took one from bkk down south, about 10 hrs drive. just go to a travel/touris info center, you'd have to be blind to miss them. organise it when your over there.

VIP bus from bkk - surat thani, then ferry to samui cost me about 10 mins to book/organise (in bkk) and about 900 baht. 1000 baht = about $35aud
