Taipan vs. Safeway Tours

Has anyone taken one of those bus tours that takes you from Toronto area to Boston, NYC, Washington, etc. (4 day/3 night thing)? I'm looking into taking one at the beginning of November. Taipan and Safeway tours offer the same package for almost the same price but I know nothing about either company. Does anyone have any experience with either?
Thanks.

they are both chinatown companies I think. other than low prices, there's nothing good about them.

WHen you visit Boston on a bus tour your hotel will be out in a suburb somewhere in an office park or highway interchange. It's not an ideal way to see the city. Those big buses can't get around very well and actually aren't allowed in the downtown areas of Boston. Why not just take a bus to Boston (or Dc or NYC) and visit on your own? I see those tour buses in the parking lots of places I wouldn;t want to stay.

Last week we went on one of those tours & shopping spree to New York, we found it was fantastic. At $164 per person for 3 days and 2 nights, you can’t beat that with anything else. We also checked at the Hilton Hotel reception where we stayed, the cost per night was $198 per room. Although the tour price is for per-person-for-two rate and there is another service charge at $8 per person per day, the price is unbeatable! The comfort with someone doing all the driving and the hotel room is again more than reasonable. Yes, the hotel is located at about one hour drive to New York, ladies were having a blast for shopping brand names at those outlet malls. Sure, the languages used were mainly Chinese, but all you need to care is when to get back onto the bus.

I recently joined the new york tour and montreal tour with Taipan and Safeway. The tour guide from Tai Pan provided a fantastic service. Hotel and coach were both better than Safeway.

I have taken bus trips with both companies mentioned. Yet based on my experience, I recommend you to go with Taipan Tours for your trip, as you can request the tour guide to speak English. I took this particular tour trip and it was wonderful, the tour guide knew so much about each place in the tour. Hotel and Coach was great, the only thing that I dislike about the trip were the people in the bus talking loud at time. So please bring a ipod.

We had very bad experience with Tai Pan Tour. e.g.

For attractions, they are charging more than the rate of the ticket.
Wherever they stop for lunch/dinner break you will only find chinese restaurant.
Washroom is always locked so you can't able to use it on the coach and they can't stop if you have any emergency.

Safeway Tours is much better. A friendly reminder to NEVER join Tai Pan Tours! You'll miss out on the trip and won't even know what happened. Three friends and I had signed up to go on a bus tour for Thanksgiving long weekend, but Tai Pan cancelled the trip and DID NOT inform us!! We waited from 5:30AM to 6:30AM to find out they had "forgotten" to call us. One staff member said "they were too busy to call", while another staff member said "it was possibly a new staff member who forgot". Regardless of the reason, it is absolutely RIDICULOUS that travel agency can cancel a tour without informing the people who had paid for it and were fully expecting to go on the trip! Furthermore, there was NO SORT OF COMPENSATION for wasting our last long weekend before Christmas.

Have joined Tai Pan Tours many times, cannot complain compared to the price we pay. We had always some how enjoyed the tour. We joined Safeway only once since Tai Pan Tour was full. Very disappointed, never will we will join Safeway again. This is Canada, we speak English but Safeway caters only to chinese speaking
They also make you sign a undertaking that you do not complain if you do not speak chinese, as such they cannot be bothered with you if you do not understand chinese.
