Using local buses in Tibet

I'm still hoping to travel Hong Kong - Tibet - Nepal overland for 3 weeks this October, if the recent tightening up of issuing a TTP doesn't stop me. But if I do make it to Lhasa overland, I would want to use local transport buses Lhasa - Shigatse - Lhatse - Shegar, so this is my question:

I have read that in the past, it has not always been possible for Westerners to get on to local buses, so I am concerned that the recent crackdown may mean that this could be a problem again. Has anyone gone from Lhasa to Everest Base Camp recently using local buses, and were there any problems?

Thanks in advance.

There was a post of a couple who got turned back at Shigatse for not having the appropriate permits for traveling further south. There have also been posts of people being refused tickets on local buses because of the permit and guide issue.

We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.

Hi there. I took buses on the following routes trouble free:

Lhasa - Ganden
Samye - Lhasa
Lhasa - Lhundrub (linzhou in Chinese)
Lhasa - Shigatse
Shigatse - Shalu
Shigatse - Gyantse
Lhasa - Tsurphu
Yangpachen (Yangbajing in Chinese) - Lhasa

None of the pilgrim buses from the Bakhor ever had a problem taking us, and touts were always keen to drag us onto their buses. The main bus station gave us a very firm "NO!" when we asked for tickets to Ali. The east bus station was friendly and helpful. Happy travels.

But can you take the busses from Shigatse to Shegar and lhatse. My original plan from before the incidents was making my way by public transport to Shigatse, buy a permit for EBC and the Friendship highway and take a bus or hitchhike to EBC and afterwards to Lhatse. Then hitchhiking from Lhatse to Darchen.
