Don't hit elephants with hammers

The missus is watching some news show on Channel 9 right now. They just showed some video footage of a man getting killed by an elephant. Yucch. Story is the man was drunk and whacked the elephant with a hammer. Elephant didn't like it and stepped on him and then proceeded to throw his body around for about an hour not letting anyone near him. Eventually the elephant got bored and went off to destroy a pick-up truck.

Yucch.

Makes you wonder though, after an hour you'd think by then somebody would have turned up with a tranquilizer gun and put the elephant to sleep for awhile? Oh, wait, this is Thailand. Mai bpen rai, never mind. Hey, good video footage. Sure a still will make the front page of Thai Rath tomorrow.

Yucch.

I should add, this would be a brilliant youtube clip... but alas, this is Thailand. I'm sure somebody will find a way to get there anyway.

in situations like that I tend to cheer for the elephant. If someone is stupid enough to hit an elephant with a hammer he deserves whatever punishment the elephant deems appropriate. Good for the elephant I say.

I'm with #2 in this case. Even though I'm surprised the victim didn't receive any help for an hour, unbelievable.

I also agree, good on the elephant.

There were people trying to help but the elephant wouldn't let anyone come near. Hence my comment about the tranquilizer gun. Apparently the man was killed pretty quick so it was really a matter of rescuing a dead body anyway.

Reminds me of what happened back in the Netherlands a few months back, a gorilla broke free and attacked a women, she was badly injured, the gorilla then went into a restaurant where it was trapped and later captured again.

Hope the elephant doesn't get destroyed.

Elephants are valuable in Thailand.
Crazy nuts who go around asking for trouble are a dime a dozen.

Sounds like a nomination for this year's Darwin award.
