Chinese visa extension for Singaporeans

Hi all,

Currently Singapore passport holders enter and remain in China for 15 days visa free, but my upcoming holiday trip to China will be longer than that. The website for the Chinese embassy in Singapore states that a visa for extension can obtained at a local Public Security Organ. Is the procedure fuss free and will any PSB do this, or am I confined to the PSB in the bigger cities? Does it cost anything (I'm sure it does) to get a visa extension? I'll be travelling around Xinjiang province and at the moment, I don't know where I'll be near the end of the 15-day period.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

I don't know about this particular area of China but I traveled with someone in a similar situation some years ago. He was able to get a Chinese visa at the PSB office. I am not sure that every PSB office can do this and the general rule of thumb is that it seems easier and quicker to obtain this extension in a smaller city or town than in a larger one. There is a cost. Speaking chinese will be necessary if you are not in an area frequented by tourists.

Don't wait until the last day as it could take a couple of days to arrange and not all offices are open every day at all hours.

Since I have taken the time to answer your question, it would be nice if you took the time to respond as to whether the information was helpful.

Why not go to the Chinese embassy in S'pore and get a longer duration visa before coming? (i.e. don't use the visa-free entry status). That will obviate the need for you to hassle with an extension while you're on your holiday.

I agree with #2, you might as well get at least the 30-day visa at the Chinese Embassy in Singapore before you come to China. It's centrally located (near Orchard Road) and less hassle than looking for a PSB to do the extension.
Cheers!

I asked because I'm not living in Singapore at the moment (but am a Singaporean) and it was a bit of trouble going to the nearest Chinese embassy to apply for the visa as I did not want to send the passport by post. Anyway, I finally made the trip to the embassy to apply.
