There is no specialised travel medicine clinic where I live

there's some old guidebook out there that claims Koh Chang is malarial. I've lived in Thailand 7 years now, and have not heard one case of malaria from Chang. (Dengue fever is another matter.) I suppose if Steve252 were still around, he'd dredge up some isolated incident of malaria on Chang or Samet. You hurt my feelings...both of 'em!

At BNH Hospital on convent road in Bangkok, they have "International Travel Medicine Clinic" which has Malaria medicine advice.8
Spent 2 weeks in Oct 06 & 2 weeks in Dec/Jan 06-7 in Koh Chang without any meds. Now, I maybe foolish - but I've never met anyone who got malaria in Koh Chang (or anywhere else in LOS for that matter). My friend did contract Dengue fever in Chiang Mai April 07 though..., If you're really worried then Boots will sell you anti-malarial pills in Thailand over the counter - so just pick them up when you get here ,9
Malaria preventatives are cheaply and readily available in Thailand (doxycycline is your cheapest option, and about as effective as the expensive stuff). But as others have said, there's almost no malaria in Thailand, including on Ko Chang. Malaria Dengue is a big deal, but there's no dengue preventatives anyway. Just try to avoid mosquito bites.na hi verena verani sammantidha kudacanam. averena ca sammanti. esa dhammo sanantano.

Ko Chang and Ko Kood (Kut) are subject to outbreaks of malaria altho Ko Mak is malaria free . The last fatal case of malaria on Ko Chang I know about was a Thai soldier , over the last 10 years or so several foreigners have died from cerebral malaria on Ko Chang. I have met plenty of locals on Ko Chang who freely admit malaria occurs , including a Thai govt doctor.Posted By: VenessaP -- 28-Jan-2010 15:01
