jinjiang inn shanghai or other cheap hotels

We're in Shanghai for 2 nights in Jan 08 en route to Japan. Looking for accom around $50-$80 a dbl room in good central location walking distance to Bund, Yu Gardens, French Concession. Has anyone stayed at the Jinjiang Inn on Fujian Nan Lu? I think it may also be called Shanghai By The Bund Jinjiang Inn. Price on their website is pretty cheap RMB269/dbl/nt and I know its basic but I'm wondering if its clean and reasonably comfortable, not too dodgy. Also have noticed recommendations from Ellyse for the Paramount Hotel, but cannot find in on the web. Can you pls give me the address, location and website if they have one? thanks in advance for any help or other recommendations.

Shanghai City Hotel might just barely be in your price range. It is located on Shanxi Nan Road near the Yanan elevated road (across from Hengshan Moller Villa). I usually stay there when other people are paying, but they seemed to have raised rates recently, and often claim to be booked on weekends if you just show up

Jinjiang inn is not bad.

Yup, Jinjiang Inn are good value for money - bright, clean modern motel chain. Haven't stayed at any of the Shanghai ones but Xi'an's and Chengdu's are very sound.

Hi Sushigirl,

The hotel prices posted now are rack rates or list prices. Sometime in December you will get a good idea of the discounted rates for the two nights you will be there. Rates can vary by 50%, so it is best not to prepay any reservations. Book a guaranteed reservation to protect yourself if you like.

Always looking for new adventures, new cultures, interesting geography.

thanks! good to have some feedback on Jinjiang Inn, their website is really flaky so I was suspecting the hotel might be too! I checked Shanghai City Hotel on Sinohotels and its probably just a bit too expensive, although the location is great. I'll take rploehn's advice and wait a bit to see they've got any special rates closer to the time. Still seeking any info on Paramount Hotel. cheers!

Shangfu Hotel and Seventh Heaven Hotel on Nanjing Lu pedestrian street are also good value. Another good recommendation is Ambassador Hotel which's just off the Bund.
You've already emailed me so just check back re hotel choices and bookings in November/December. :)
Cheers!
