Z-visa extension

Hi,
I'm currently living in China on a Z-visa which will be running out in the middle of my hols. The local PSB cannot renew it a few days/weeks in advance. They advise me to get a tourist visa while I'm travelling and to renew my Z-visa in my hometown upon my return. But I'm expecting problems because I am not really entering China, so there's no port of entry whatsoever, I've been here for a year. Hopping across an international border for a day is not an option, as I won't be near one. Has anyone of you been in a similar position? Did you experience any difficulty? Any suggestions welcome, thanks in advance!

Unless the institution you are working at gets involved, there is no way for you to renew a Z visa. If you have the promise of work for the next year, your institution can get you the z visa. If not just get the tourist one as the PSB suggests. If you plan to stay in China more than a month tell the PSB the lenght of time you need.

I had similiar problem two years ago. Travelling near Beijing and hoped to get Z visa renewed (changing schools) and spent a day at office in Beijing told, I couldn't renew it there. Must leave China. They didn't even offer me choice of getting Tourist Visa while in China. I spoke to 4 different people and same results.

If you can get valid tourist visa without leaving China--do so.

Good luck.
