Visa Fee Increase for Americans

I don't know if anyone has posted anything about the visa and visa extension fee increases that will take place on August 1, 2007. In addition to the rapidly rising prices to enter major parks and cultural environments, visa fees are increasing. This applies specifically to Americans. All other nationalities need not worry about visa fee increases for the near future.

I am in Golmud at the moment and spoke with the foreign affairs officer, Mr. Ma, and he informed me that the increase will go up to 700 to 750 kuai for a visa or visa extenstion. He recommends that you go for your extenstions as soon as possible before the implementation of the increase.

Apparently the State Department/USG has increased the same fee for Chinese tourists in or on their way to the US and so the Chinese are returning the favor.

Have fun watchng your money disappear.

Cheers!

Yes, it is important to note that it may seem unfair that they are intentionally raising the visa fees for Americans, but note that US Immigration is not being very fair and open to Chinese travelers either. I would rather be an American applying for a Chinese visa than a Chinese applying for a US visa any day.

Ah, but #3, that's only the symptom. The cause is the fact that foreigners have no representation in Washington, and so the outcome of Congressional and executive penny pinching is to screw the foreigners. We are only collateral damage.

Anyway, be sure to let your Congressman know exactly how you feel.......(you DO vote, of course.)

Check out the link qima17 posted: a flat rate of $100 for visas issued in the US??? That's double the current $50 for a standard L, X, or Z Visa...and rush fees still apply. Ouch.

What's with all the whining? It's just a couple of bucks. If you can't afford $6 or $7 extra for a visa you can't afford the trip. Shake out your sofa cushions, clean the change out of your car, bust open the piggy bank. I am not sympathetic to whining about a fee increase that is less than the cost of a sandwich.

That's a $50 US increase.

Much more than the cost of a sandwich.

50 kuai is less than $7 US. About the cost of a cheap sandwich. Not worth whining about.

DaBaba, you aren't paying attention. It's not a 50 yuan increase, it's a $50 (USD) increase. Check out the link that was posted for New York or this one, http://www.chinaconsulatesf.org/eng/, for San Francisco. Since the price is the same for a single or double entry now, why would anyone only get a single?

DaBaba, if 50 United States Dollars are so worthless, how about sending me 50 United States Dollars?
