Booking Beijing-Lhasa train tickets

Hi,

Is there any way to book the tickets by internet for this train? We arrive to Beijing in early september and we don't want to spend there more than 3-4 days before taking the train to Lhasa.
Is it possible to find tickets in such a short period of time if we couldn't book them before?

If it's not possible to get the tickets on our own, is it possible to arrange it in Beijing? How much would it cost with an agency (the tickets and the Tibet permit)?

And the last one (sorry for so many questions, hehehe), is it possible to travel from Beijing to Lhasa by bus? (obviously in several days and stopping somewhere on the way)

Thank you very much!!

It's probably technically possible to take several trips of bus to travel from Beijing to Lhasa, nothing direct though. With a bit of patience and lots of time, you may perhaps travel from BJ to Taiyuan, Xi'an, Lanzhou, Xining, Golmud and then Lhasa?
