unfortunately, $15-$20 a head is no longer a high-end place in Shanghai - and hasn't been for 10 years.

Three suggestions for a big group:

Guyi

Dong Bei Ren

Crystal Jade for dim usm

Hmm, 3 Chinese restaurants. None of them Shanghainese. Uh, maybe Yang's Kitchen? My favorite Shanghainese places are either more than $20 per head, not very foreigner friendly or only really have about 24 seats in total.

I think casanova has the best pizza in Shanghai. . . but it's not particularly cheap

he'll defend us, he'll defend us,

In Xi'an you must get out to the street restaurants that have lots of muslim treats on a grill. It use to be in one of the street areas on the north east side of the city, but you need to check or someone else may have the actual street. There are also good muslim restaurants near the bell tower which is just a couple of blocks from the muslim section. One dish I liked was call "Yang Rou Po (paw) Mo (maw)" and is a soup made with lamb and has lots of bread put in. Try it with pickled garlic and the round flat bread. This is a special dish for Xi'an.
