In most countries it is almost impossible to change a visa when in the country. I suspect that the same is true in China. I suspect that you will need to obtain a new visa and that this can only be done outside of China.

If you leave the country you will have to get a new visa before you return. You cannot get it in China before you leave. At least that was my experience, if someone has gotten it done, I would like to know how, too.
