Getting To Ko Phi Phi

Quick question- to get to Kho Phi Phi from Bangkok the best thing to do is to fly to Krabi, right? From there I can rent a boat to Ko Phi Phi? How long does the boat take, and how regular are they?

Thanks!

Yes - fly to Krabi and get the regular ferry to PP. Schedule. Last boat is at 4PM and the ferry terminal is about 30 minutes from the airport.

Ferry timetable and some info on Phi Phi in the second link below.

Access from Phuket can be just as good. Phuket gets more/often cheaper flights, has (usually) cheaper access to the pier despite bigger distances. Phuket ferries to Phi Phi also shown on that sublink.

If you go th Phuket, get the cheap 100 baht bus from the airport bus booth to Phuket town. From town buy a ticket for the boat which includes the taxi ride to the pier. Tickets at the pier/boat cost more than in town and you will have also paid taxi fare from town. When the bus stops at a travel agency on the way to Phuket town, do not talk to, or do business with these touts. Just get back on the bus to Phuket town and go to a travel agency down town near the night street market, shoping center or from a hotel or guest house, all of which have the boat tickets including taxi to the pier.

So don't you don't need to bother even glancing at Tezza's links at ALL! (He just gets an unnatural thrill when he gets hits on his blog counter). Stick with Bob's advice.

Long time since I did it, but from memory it takes about 30mins to reach Ao Nang from the airport (Krabi town a bit less) as #1 said. Allow at least two hours to be on the safe side though as you will have to buy ferry tickets and Air Asia flights are often delayed.... have a beer or something while you wait for the ferry.

7^ As I said in post #1 it takes about 30 minutes from the Krabi airport to the ferry terminal, subject to conditions. Here is a Krabi map which shows the airport as just off the upper righthand edge and the ferry terminal is at the bottom. You can see it isn't terribly far. Just get to the pier before 4pm and buy your ticket before boarding.

Krabi would be better if flying in the morning in time to get a boat the same day. I think the boats from Phuket are only in the morning. I was just thinking that if you were flying too late to get the boat the same day, you could choose to spend the night in Phuket town instead of Krabi Town. When in that area I found tezza's sites very helpful and stayed at Phi Phi Hill which he reviewed.

Stone the crows, trendsetters! Let's try and clarify things.

By all means if aircraft arrival times and ferry departure times fit, and you are not a bottom dollar traveller, the ferry from the new Krabi town pier (NOT Ao Nang) is the way to go.

There is NO ferry from Ao Nang to Phi Phi in the wet season, and no ferry in the afternoon even in the dry season.
The Ao Nang ferry is more expensive and takes a bit longer.
Ao Nang is a lot further from Krabi airport than the new Krabi town terminal, and even more of a rip-off in fixed taxi fare (600baht last I heard). It is very difficult and time consuming to get to Ao Nang from the airport any cheaper.
Getting to Krabi town aint exactly a bargain. From recent reports, the 100 baht minibus runs irregularly and the latest fixed price taxi fare I saw was 350baht.
Phuket airport is further from the pier in Phuket town as I said in #2, but cheaper. In addition to the minibus Kevin mentioned, there is an airport express coach which runs down to the Phuket town bus station for 80baht. Google for times.
There is an afternoon ferry from Phuket to Phi Phi. But it leaves an hour earlier 1330 than the Krabi departure 1430.

Oh yeah, and Bob's 1600 departure from Krabi town is even better for later flights.
BTW, the high season only Ao Nang-Phi Phi ferry leaves at 0900. This is an excellent way to access PP from Ao Nang and Railay/Ton Sai (it picks up from longtails off Railay) because of the early start and because you get to see the awesome Railay area scenery. But it is way early for most flights.

Tezza, the OP asked how long it took to get to the ferry terminal from Krabi airport and he has yet to mention WHEN he is going to Ko Phi Phi. There is really no need to get your knickers in a twist whenever anyone questions your input on TT. (And why do you always use the very archaic expression "stone the crows" and call anyone who disagrees with you a *trendsetter*?)

It isn't clear why you felt you needed to intervene on this thread at all.

Bob had already answered the OP's question very well and given a reliable link. Why did you feel it necessary to dive in and tell the OP to look at the link in your blog too? (The ferry times are also much more clearly presented in Bob's link than in your posts IMO). Also why did you contradict Bob's advice and tell the OP to go via Phuket? Air Asia flights cost the same (or less) to Krabi and the ferry connection times are OK. Why make things difficult and confusing for people?

Stone the crows, SBE, get over your snitty criticism of just about every second info posts I do.

"It isn't clear why you felt you needed to intervene on this thread at all. - somebodyelse.

Bob typed his answer at the same time as I did. He hit the send button a few seconds before me. His timetable is the same as mine - but I was unaware of that. My first line does not contradict anything - I give the timetable which includes the Krabi-Phi Phi ferry as asked.

I then give an alternative of Phuket which could be best if the OP is bucks down or if he wants the alternative of many more incoming flights. When is more info a bad thing?

Bad info is a bad thing. I found your suggestion of Ao Nang bewildering. Why go all the way down to Ao Nang, get bussed over to Noppharet Thara pier, pay more money, waste time while the ferry stops to load more passengers off Railay, and then takes longer to get to Phi Phi? Why "make things difficult and confuse people?" to use your words.
Hey, make things even more difficult - maybe OP steve could follow your advice if he is leaving soon, go to Ao Nang and then have to go back to Krabi town because the ferry doesn't run until November. When he gets back to Krabi town, that ferry has maybe left while he has spent 900 baht on taxi fares careering around Krabi province.

As a final note, I found another ferry timetable suggesting only one PM ferry from Krabi town - at 1500, not the 1600 of Bob/my link. So I sent a PM to steve suggesting that maybe he check it, try to find the correct time.
