ACCOMODATION NEAR tiananmen square BEIJING

I am starting my tour of China in July. My flight would arrive at Beijing Capital International airport (PEK China) at about 15:10

I have not yet booked any accomodation.

Kindly advise a suitable budget accomodation, single room, for 2-3 days near Tiananmen square

And a safe way to reach it possibly by bus, if starting right from the terminal.

Thanks

How near? What's your expected price range when you say "budget"? When in July are you staying?
Cheers!

Hi Ellyse,

I was sure you would be first to reply.

Well near mean, a walking distance or maybe a short taxi ride.
Price to be well under US$ 30 per room-night
I would reach on 3rd July and would stay for a three or four days.

I always recommend the Far East Hotel. If the thing still exists, it's in a hutong walking distance from Tiananmen and featured in Lonely Planet. Can't vouch for prices nowadays but paid about $19 USD/night for a double room in 2003, and $5 a night for a dorm bed there.

Duration of taxi rides could vary greatly according to traffic conditions. Much better to rely on the metro.
If you don't mind a windowless room, Guoren Hotel is almost right on Tiananmen Square, and it's only 188 RMB/night.
Cheers!

Hi # 3 Channamasala,

Your name is interesting. Channa nerm germ would be still better.

I checked Far East Hotel. It is now nearly US$30 per room. I would consider it.

For dear Ellyse # 1 - somehow I am allergic to windowless room. Year before last I was traveling in Brazil. I got a nice room for a very attractive price like 16$ per night in the heart of Brazilia, their capital city. When I realized it was in the basement, my throat chocked and I asked for a better room.

But in my life time in Australia, I slept in a room, six floors down. It was in Peddy Cooper, central Australia and the hotel was a converted Opal mine.

Going my metro is a good option. Can you suggest anyother place having " A room with a view" ( That was name of an old picture.)

Lovingcat # 4. thanks for the response. I am a cat lover too.

Or, if you don't mind being near to a metro stop on the ring line, but not at Tiananmen Square, Minfu Hotel near Yonghegong Lamasery has rooms for 188 RMB/night as well.
Cheers!

I am currenty staying at the Far East Hostel. 63 rmb for a bed in a 4 bed dorm in the courtyard. (window, no view, ac, sink in room.) Buffet breakfast that is very good for 35. Also a good location. I don't have the price of a single room but lots of people here.

Private room prices at Far East IYH are a little expensive for OP.
Cheers!

You are right. I checked at the desk, 260 rmb for a single. Changed money at the Bank of Beijing today and got 7.56 so it would work out to about US $ 34.40, which is above what OP wanted to pay.
