I always recommend the Far East Hotel. If the thing still exists, it's in a hutong walking distance from Tiananmen and featured in Lonely Planet. Can't vouch for prices nowadays but paid about $19 USD/night for a double room in 2003, and $5 a night for a dorm bed there.Everybody should be somebody's Poke Thing. Lao Ren Cha
