One day tours to get into Tibet from Beijing?

Anyone know of any one day tours that leave from Beijing up to Lhasa, also including the train - preferably soft sleeper. The ones I have seen so far have been four days, I just want to get up to Lhasa fairly cheaply and sort out my own tours from there.

Also, is there any update on Westerners getting on the train in Beijing, is it even possible now? I will have about five to ten days in Beijing to book my tickets in advance. Also, on the extreme chance that they let me book a ticket will I have to show my TTB pass, if not I may just not bother getting one and take my chances? Any opinions?

Cheers.

Hi

We're staying at Leo Hostel in Beijing and they can organise 1 day tours to Lhasa, which we're trying to organise at the moment as we also want to arrange our own tours from Lhasa.

They have offered us a permit, hard seat on the train from Beijing on 29th/30th(sleepers of any class just don't seem to be available), a 1 day tour to lake nam-tso and a guide for 1400 rmb.

It takes 3 working days to get the permit through and although hard seat isn't the most comfortable it seems to be the cheapest option we've found.

Hope that's some help.

We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.
