10 days/2 weeks in China from Hong Hong

I'm planning to visit family in Hong Kong for 3 weeks in August/September and am hoping to spend 10 days/2 weeks in China. Can anyone recommend a good itinerary for China, I've no idea where to start!

Is it easiest to fly or cheap/easy to go by train?

Can anyone recommend a good budget tour?

Do you also have to leave from Hong Kong?
What are your sightseeing interests and preferences?
What's your budget like?
I would recommend train for most journeys.
Cheers!

Hi ellyse, yeah I'm booking a return flight to HK from the UK - probabaly spending 3 nights or so there at the beginning 3 nights at the end of my trip and then 10days/2 weeks in China in the middle. Definitely on a budget planning to stay in hostels etc but not too tight a budget! I'd really like to go somewhere quite rural - rivers/interestign landscapes maybe and only pass through cities if they're really worth a vist. Someone told me about a really beautiful mystical area where all the famous paintings come from?! not sure where that is but it sounded interesting. Also love to see any temples/intersting historical sights and maybe do soemthing active - cycling/trekking.

Basically anything - I'm open to suggestions! Thanks for your help

You're most probably thinking of Yangshuo. Try the route from there leading up to Kaili in Guizhou province.
Cheers!
