Tours in Tibet

I just want to state my travel experiences in tibet and I think this would probably help some other travelers in planing their trip. I arranged my tibet-permit through Sams Guesthouse Chengdu which was without a problem. I had to book two nights in the Aku Tonpa Family Guest House in Lhasa. The Guesthouse was great, very good rooms with a very helpful staff. We arranged then our trip to the EBC with the Khata Tibet Tour & travel Agency. Norbu, the guy from the agency, was hanging around in the guesthouse. So here's my advice: Don't book it through him. The tour wasn't planned good at all and we also had a extremly poor guide. This guide, Jess is her name, didn't have a clue about tibetan culture and history. At least she left us a day earlier which put the miserable end to her bad guiding. Try to avoid her! So all the best for your traveling!

Would also have been helpful if you said when you traveled there.

The third complaint I've read here about Tibetan tour agencies in Lhasa in less than a month. If you're planning a trip there, it's worth doing a search on this branch to try to avoid problems.

I was traveling at the beginning of June 2007. On the card the guide gave me there is only written Khata Tibet Tour & Travel, phone numbers and email but no adress. I don't know how he is related to the office in Chengdu. Maybe a fake, I don't know! Here's just a good itineray how it can work out fine going to the EBC:
-Day 1: Lhasa to Shigatse
-Day 2: Shigatse to Shegar
-Day 3: Shegar to EBC, visiting Everest in the afternoon and on the next morning
-Day 4: EBC to Shigatse
-Day 5: Shigatse via Namdrok-Lake to Lhasa

Just verifie if Namdrok-Lake and Sakya is in your itinery. Agencys tend to want additional money for that!
All the best for you in wonderful Tibet!

Hmm,,, there's a Khata Potala Tour Agency inside the compound of Kirey Hotel, if you mean this one (pls confirm), then this is the 2nd complaint about this agency within 2 weeks.

When we stayed at Kirey Hotel, there was just one travel agency in the compound and it was to the left as you entered. Cant remember the name, though. We didnt even get a price from them for our tour but went to Banok Shol.
