Pattaya or Phuket? How much advance booking required?

Hello friends:

Grateful for suggestions - is it worth staying at Phuket or Pattaya? I need a relaxing beach top hotel short vacation.

I would prefer a quieter beach, clean and as near to the hotel as possible.

Is it a hasstle to get to Phuket from Bangkok international airport? connecting flights - wait long hours?

What is the ideal time to book in advance and clear cut safe mode? I read a lot of posts here where people arriving at hotels and bookings not recognised as confirmed -what should one ask for or carry as confirmation?

I am looking for hotels in the range of $80-$100. Are there any suggestions that match my expectations?

Food: Any hotels that provide english or american food (fast food) or is nearby - I hated Thai food when I was in Bkk.

I plan to visit during January - is it a busy time? Will that mean I book now? I am from India.

Many thanks in advance.

Fx

You should probably go to Phuket. MANY flights, pretty much every hour. Either Thai Airways or Air Asia when you connect from an international flight.

Keep in mind Phuket is a province with many beaches, not a beach. So do some research about which beach area you want to be.

Book something from a reputable site, like www.agoda.com .

Check out pics and reviews of all kinds of food at chanchao.fotopages.com. Get the Thai Travel Menu, a printable bilingual menu to help you order great food off the beaten path.

Do not go to Pattaya, or Patong beach.

as near to the hotel as possible.

Is right in front of the hotel close enough? plenty of those.

hotels that provide english or american food (fast food)

If you hate any food other than english or american perhaps you should go to the Carribean or Hawaii, otherwise yes, you can get anything you want, even Indian food.

January - is it a busy time

Yes.

OTY.

I am from India.

Irrelevant. All they care about is if your currency is valid.

Thanks a ton Chan chao and Thaibeach...

Very helpful, some clarifications:

- is OTY: book now?
- Any reference/recommendations on hotels/resorts stayed at recently?
- is online booking fine to use my credit card? Or just get confirmations and pay only advance?
- Which beach is recommended if Pattaya not the one? How does one get from Pattaya airport to a quieter beach?
- Any particular things to watch out for? Avoid?

Many thanks
Felix

OTY= over to you. Now is low season, no need to book.
I don't stay on Phuket, outside Patong, so can not advise you any place to stay on personal experience.
However, Club Med has a nice place, I believe.

Really, and you are from india, surely some nice curry would suit you ? Anyway plenty of fast food outlets.

Be advised that Phuket can be fairly expensive in high season, and it might be advisable to pre-book. Your budget for accomodation will be over the top for Pattaya and adequate in Phuket.
