South China Floods - safe to travel overland from Hanoi?

I'm currently in Hanoi and am looking to travel overland (bus and/or train) in the next coupe of days to Guilin and then train to Hong Kong (somehow).

(1) Does anyone know whether or not the floods will effect this route? Or should I just cut my losses and fly - expensive though as need to fly to Guangdong then Guilin?

(2)What is Guilin & Yangshuo like at the moment? Doable or should I give it a miss and wait a few weeks.

Thx

I just check flood news for you, there's no news about the flood in the route you mentioned. There is a direct bus from Hanoi to Nanning(capital city of Guangxi), you can inquire them directly. Their tel number is (04)972 0027, address:368 Tran Khat Chan, Hanoi. The bus will depart from Hanoi on 7:00am everyday, and take 6-7 hours to Nanning. I took this bus 2 times at the beginning of this year, that's luxury bus, it's ok. the fee is RMB120.
From Nanning to Guilin, you can take train or bus, generaly, local people and tourists will choose bus, because it's faster. But because the whether, you can ask first and decide it.

Both Guilin and Yangshuo is ok now, don't worry.

Thanks Catherine,

Do you know the name of the company, where the bus departs from, where you can buy tickets? Price in RMB or US$? Sorry for all the questions.

Have also heard about another company, they depart from the Kim Lien Hotel (7 Dao Duy Anh St. Dong Da sistrict). Have you ever used them? They also do Hanoi-Nanning direct.

Oh, Kim Lien Hotel's bus is as the same bus as the one i told you. They are the same. I couln't explain why the name is different, as i remember, the hotel is near the place i told you. I have very deep depression, because i spent lots time to find out this hotel's location. _

You can pay in RMB 120=VND24,000, of course, they will not refuse to receive US, i think.

I took this bus from Nanning to Hanoi, and then, when i came back to Nanning, i missed this bus(the card they gave me showed there has two buses per day, one is 0730am another is 1230pm), but the second bus is stop because there's no too much passengers. But bus office help me to call a private small bus, about 12people bus(BENZ). Actually, this private small bus is faster than the big bus, but it just sent passengers to the border.(RMB60=VND12,000) After acrossing the border, you can take a small van(RMB10-15/per person) to Pingxiang Bus Station, you can take bus to anywhere you want there, such as Guilin, Yangshuo, Guangzhou, ect. Prices is cheap and save, because they are government own buses.

Cheers,
