I've always posted mine. I wouldn't put more than a few in each envelope though.
Once you've only got a couple dozen, IMO, put them in the checked bag, but with the covers removed, and in a CD case. Bkk customs is no problem, if it's in the checked bag, no probs in Dubai, and just hope you don't get stopped in London.
If they're DVD's, will they play on UK equipment, though. Thai ones won't, so I took a DVD player back to the UK too.

A couple of years ago I bought about 1,000 mostly CDs but some VCDs and DVDs back from China to the UK. I'd got hold of a big professional-looking CD case on wheels and had no problems with customs.

Previously a mate did about 100 in a hand-held pro-looking CD case as hand luggage, but that was prior to 9/11 so maybe that would not be so easy now.

When we did them we striped them down from the cases and just took the CD/DVDs and inserts, and separated these so they were not obvious.

And I would say that what I did before was a very bad thing, even though none of them were pirate items. I would not encourage or condone smuggling in a public forum.

Put the model number into Google, add 'region free' and do what it says. As long as you don't take multiple copies of the same disc, you won't have any problems at all with pirated DVDs/CDs at UK customs (YMMV, of course). It's illegal to sell knock-off stuff. Not to buy it or own it.

I've never had problems taking them through customs.

Though they're getting pretty cheap in the UK too - try Vauxhall Market on Sundays (behind Sainsburys - multimap.com: SW8 2LF

Most stalls there sell them there for £2 each or 6 for £10.

I think you will be fine with the advice above.

#3 "its not illegal to buy it"...I maybe wrong but I think it is illegal if knowingly...not sure how they prove it though. In the past the police in some countries used this as a way of controlling it as they failed to stop the supply...they scared people off. If I am talking bxxxxx then this message will self distruct...just interested.

#1 The dvds I've bought in Thailand work fine in the UK, though they did vary in quality.

The UK customs are a "law unto themselves" and are in trouble with the EU for ILLEGALLY confiscating booze and vehicles from travellers back from Europe. If they feel like it they'll surely confiscate your "pirates" ( to add to their private collections, no doubt ), and what are you going to do about it?
My advice if being checked, is to write down their badge number, and note everything they do, in writing. That seems to freak them out.
Make a formal complaint, if they cross the line, too!

I have no idea about the UK.

In Australia it isn't against the law to own pirate CDs or DVDs.

It is only against the law to sell them.

In Australia customs will only confiscate them if they think your intention is to sell the discs.

For example if you have multiple copies of the same title or if they ask you if you intend to sell them and you reply yes.

Otherwise it is 100% fine.
