Thai language classes

Hi,

Am interested to attend conversational thai language classes, preferably in Bangkok, for the novice to the language.
Planning 2 weeks in Bangkok, then further travels.
Any thoughts

Phil

there are many schools in bangkok.

I used to learn here --> thai language house . its a nice school and is right beside ploen chit bts station. you can e-mail them and they will be able to tailor something one on one. should be about 250-300baht/hour something like that.

a lot of schools/teachers advertise in the bkk post.

Are you already familiar with Thai?
If not, I'd think 2 weeks would be a bit ambitious to attain a conversational level. Some farangs living in Thailand for years never attain that level. The best you could reasonably hope for, IMO, is basic stuff, like "where is the loo" and how to order food, etc.

IMO its the best way to start learning, you will be way ahead of any bargirl thai speakers after your first few lessons.

I applaud you for even considering it. I've met plenty of long-term people here who seem to consider it too difficult so just don't bother.

As #1 says, there are plenty of adverts in the Bangkok Post, and maybe online at www.bangkokpost.net

Good for you for trying. I wish I had when I was there. Sure, it'll be hard learning a tonal language, but it's great to have locals smile at you in appreciation of your efforts - that's what happened to me in Vietnam.
