Cashing American Express Travellers Cheques in China

Cashing American Express Travellers Cheques in China

From previous trips to China I remember that the exchange rate at all banks was the same as Bank of China official rate.
Is that still the same?
Is there any advantage to cash the cheques at the American Express offices? No commision?
I have pound sterling cheques...

I believe the AMEX offices in China do not change TCs: you'll be sent to a bank.

Use an ATM card. I have heard stories of real problems in cashing TCs. No prob is your are registered at 5-star hotels, but if you are backpacking, I do not think that is your hangout! Have a great trip and meet some fine people!
