Probability of locating travel companions when in Lhasa?

Hello:

I will be in Lhasa mid-July, beginning July 21. After some business in Lhasa, my intention is to travel overland via the standard 5-6 day EBC trip to Kathmandu (KTM). I must start this trip on or around July24-26 to connect with a flight home from KTM. I am alone, and at this point my inquiries to travel agencies have yielded cost estimates of about $2000, which I find exhorbitant! Multiple forum members have suggested that it is smarter (i.e., cheaper) to wait until you are in Lhasa, and then book with an already existing jeep tour. What I am unclear on is how easy is this to accomplish in only 3-4 days when I have a fixed requirement to leave between July 24-26. Alternately, if I book independently before arrival in Lhasa, what is the probability that I can find travel companions for my fixed itinerary in only a couple of days? Anyone out there interested in partnering for the standard EBC-KTM tour on the days I've indicated?

Best regards and thanks in advance.
